Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Identity) Where known, use terminology that subjects use for themselves (self-identification). This can mean using the term an individual uses for himself or herself, or using the term a group most widely uses for itself. This includes referring to transgender individuals according to the names and pronouns they use to identify themselves. Interesting in the context of artists like Wendy Carlos, whose Wikipedia talk page has some lively discussion about facets of dealing with a public figure’s gender change and self-identification. The Question: do I re-tag the artist info for the Soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange? Is it by Walter who performed the original work in the early 70s, or Wendy, who “Walter” is today? Either way, it’s still 5 stars, beginning to end. Go, Wendy.
