  1. Ken Stringfellow - “It’ll Be A Breeze” (Live; Long Winters cover; 2007)

Ken Stringfellow, standing on a park bench in Vienna, singing a lovely version of a great song by my co-host. Which track, as it happens, Mr. Stringfellow also co-produced.

Sure. Ken’s probably undead. But, man can that fella ever sing.

  2. A few years before, during the Western State Hurricanes, I met a very lovely lady named Meggean Ward. She was visiting Seattle and we were introduced by Ken Stringfellow after a show. Ken didn’t know me at that point but he had come to this WSH show and afterward gave me his business card and told me to call him before I signed anything. If I remember correctly the business card was deathly cold and covered with cobwebs.

  4. The Long Winters - “Ultimatum” (early version, 2004)

I’ll never forget when John first played this one for me. Still. Wow.

Happy Birthday, Hotrod. Thanks for everything.

    John Roderick - “Carparts”

    Just lovely. So great.

I’m really lucky to get to hang out with this deeply talented asshole.

Love that guy. Outstanding mic skills.

The Long Winters - “The Commander Thinks Aloud”

The prettiest, saddest song about a space shuttle crash you’ll ever hear.

  7. FIAT 500 Commercial - “Baby”

I really like this song, but can’t quiiiiite place it…. Hm. Hm.

    Psych!

Man. Ellie’s going to me so pumped to learn Uncle John’s music is in a commercial for the new Luigi!

  8. John Roderick - “Carparts”

    My pal, Adam:

In the winter of 2011, we invited John Roderick of The Long Winters over for a potluck dinner. He played a few songs, told some stories and ate all of the food.

A few of those moments have been put together into a video collection called “More Than Shapes,” named for a song and a story from that evening.

Can’t wait to see the rest of these.

Never tell John Roderick, but nobody is a bigger Long Winters fan than I am.

  10. Ken Stringfellow - It’ll Be A Breeze / THEY SHOOT MUSIC - YouTube

    Speaking of which.

Here’s Ken Stringfellow (The Posies) covering “It’ll be a Breeze” (The Long Winters).

It’s absolutely one of my favorite John Roderick songs, beautifully interrupted here by a crazy-gifted singer.

Standing on a park bench. Naturally.

Here’s John’s original, from the glorious When I Pretend to Fall.

Still, one of my favorite sites I’ve ever done. And, so fun to make.

I miss the old-timey trend.

Let’s call it a pilot program.

Steak, Babies, Hitler, Molecules, Hearing Loss, and the Best of the Liberal Arts. Pretty much what you’d expect.

I definitely want to make this a thing.

Working on making this a thing. Not done yet, but, hey, web page.

  14. Western State Hurricanes “Car Parts” (Oct. 2, 1998)

Original incarnation of the aforementioned “Carparts,” performed by John Roderick’s almost-on-Sub-Pop quartet, The Western State Hurricanes.

I do prefer The Long Winters’s version, but must note in passing that John’s subsequent sidepersons have included way fewer empirically adorable lady guitar players.

In other news: nice video effects!
