A few years before, during the Western State Hurricanes, I met a very lovely lady named Meggean Ward. She was visiting Seattle and we were introduced by Ken Stringfellow after a show. Ken didn’t know me at that point but he had come to this WSH show and afterward gave me his business card and told me to call him before I signed anything. If I remember correctly the business card was deathly cold and covered with cobwebs.

In the winter of 2011, we invited John Roderick of The Long Winters over for a potluck dinner. He played a few songs, told some stories and ate all of the food.
A few of those moments have been put together into a video collection called “More Than Shapes,” named for a song and a story from that evening.
Can’t wait to see the rest of these.

Western State Hurricanes “Car Parts” (Oct. 2, 1998)
Original incarnation of the aforementioned “Carparts,” performed by John Roderick’s almost-on-Sub-Pop quartet, The Western State Hurricanes.
I do prefer The Long Winters’s version, but must note in passing that John’s subsequent sidepersons have included way fewer empirically adorable lady guitar players.
